Cat Care

Cat care is the topmost thing in a cat lovers' minds. When you keep a pet, it's your responsibility to keep it healthy, happy, and safe. You can't afford to ignore this aspect of pet rearing at any cost. Would you ever forget to care for your own child? Never! The same goes for pets.

Vaccination is indispensable. Cats are prone to a number of serious diseases and vaccines can actually save your pet's life. There are four main vaccinations for cats, plus a rabies shot, in case your pussy loves to mingle with stray cats.

Next is nutrition. We know that you don't have time to cook meals at home for your pet. Beside that, buying canned food or packs of dry food is more convenient than grinding bones and meat in the kitchen. But, you must check the cat food labels. Cats are carnivores and need a high-protein diet.

Therefore, make sure that the food you buy contains protein as its main ingredient. Grains should come last in the ingredients list. However, nothing beats homemade food, both for humans as well as pets.

Safety of your cat is also one of the important issues. Collars with ID tags are fine, but there is another thing that you can try. It's microchipping. A chip is inserted inside the skin around the neck area of the pet. This chip contains the name, address, contact number, and other important details of the pet owner. In case your cat strays far or gets lost, the finder can easily trace you and return your beloved pet.

Apart from the above, there are certain health issues you need to consider. One of them is heartworm prevention. Heartworm is a serious condition. The worms feed on the vital parts around your pet's heart. Horrible! There's more to it - the dying worms may pose even greater risk, as they may clog the arteries. When these dead worms start decomposing inside the arteries, it gets as scary and disgusting as the bugs in "Men In Black"!

So, if you don't want any of the movie stuff coming true, it's important to take care of the health and cleanliness of your pussy. This includes dental care too. In the beginning, your furry friend may find it annoying to have a toothbrush in its mouth. But, there are meat-flavored toothpastes available especially for pets. Let it lick the paste a little to get accustomed to it. A little patience is required to teach your kitty good habits, but at the end, brushing teeth would become an enjoyable activity for it as well.

Talking of cleanliness, you cannot ignore those nasty fleas sticking over your cat's body. This happens when you let your cat roam around the neighborhood, raiding trash bins or playing with "street" cats. Now, you can't cage your kitty inside the house, right? But, you can certainly visit the pet store and get effective flea control.

Another responsible act that you can do is spaying & neutering your pet. Some people cannot come to terms with de-sexing their beloved cats. They believe that it will make them less lovable and affect their personality. This is a misconception. Spaying (in case of female cats) and neutering (in case of male cats) does not affect your pet's lovable traits. But, it certainly saves them from serious diseases.

Last but not the least, excessive meowing is yet another issue to deal with. When your cat goes "Meowwwww." and it never seems to stop, it's time to apply some tactics. Just don't respond. We know it's hard to ignore that loud MEOWW and when it comes in a series of "meows", it gets irritating. But, this is pure emotional blackmail! If you don't want your kitty to think, "I get what I want", overlook her "meowy" demands and teach her to be a quieter pussy. Make her a cool cat!
