Cleaning a cats ear is very important, as negligence leads to ear infection and often causes permanent damage. So it is essential for an owner to clean his/her pets ears regularly. Make it a regular habit to clean your cats ears when she is young so that it becomes a routine for her. Then she wont resist while you clean her ears. Do it on a weekly basis right from the time when your cat is just a few weeks old.

Another trick that one has to learn while cleaning ones pets ears is to hold her in a tight grip but in such way that she does not get hurt. Use your thumb and forefinger to roll back her ears and use the rest of your fingers to lightly grip the loose skin behind her neck so that she does not run away. Now gently insert an ear bud and clean out the wax inside. Check the ears for any kind of redness or discharge. If there is light brown coating of ear wax then it is safe but if it is black or red, and if there is yellow or green pus then a vet should be consulted immediately.
If you find that a lot of wax has accumulated in the ear then use few drops of any good brand of ear cleaner and massage it gently and then clean it out with an ear bud. Repeat the process if necessary.
If you find that your cat is scratching her ears over and over again or shaking her head from time to time then it is a sign that she has developed an infection in her ears. Do not neglect this and take her to a vet immediately. There are several forms of treatment for a cat in case of an ear infection. You could use ointments and ear drops or oral medicines and injections as well.
