If you care about the foods you eat, you should also care about the foods your cat eats. For treats that contain healthy ingredients and that taste fresh because they're freshly made, try one of the following recipes for organic cat treats.
While there are a number of recipes for cat treats organic or otherwise choose recipes that are primarily composed of protein. Cats are true carnivores and, in the wild, they live off of small animals and rodents. The only carbohydrate or vegetable matter they consume is whats found in the stomachs of their prey. Unfortunately, many commercial treats and diets have grains as their primary ingredient, which produces less than optimal health in your cat. In addition, be sure to choose organic ingredients, especially when organ meats, like liver, are to be used as pet food.
To make liver bites, cook one half of a cup of chicken livers. Place them in your blender with cup of water and blend until smooth. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup of whole wheat flour and 1 tablespoon of butter. Then, add the liver/water mixture, along with cup of cooked, mashed carrots. Combine thoroughly and knead the resulting dough into a ball. Divide the dough into 12 equal size pieces and form them into small rounds. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Be sure to let them cool before serving.
To make mince bites, combine 3 ounces of uncooked sausage or another ground meat with 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of whole oat and, if desired, a sprinkling of catnip. Once the ingredients are well combined, take one teaspoon of the mixture and form it into a round shape. Place the shapes under the broiler until the outsides are crisp typically about 5 to 7 minutes. Allow the bites to cool before serving.
To make fish cakes, combine 7 ounces of sardines packed in oil with cup of powdered milk and cup of wheat germ. Include the oil and any bones that are packed with the sardines the bones are soft and wont harm your cat. Spray a cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray and roll the fish cake mixture into small balls. Place them on the cookie sheet and then flatten then with a fork. Bake the cakes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until lightly brown and cool before serving.
To make tuna treats, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine three ounces of tuna packed in oil (do not drain) with cup whole wheat flour, cup dried milk, cup of water and one tablespoon of vegetable oil. Mix until thoroughly combined. In a separate bowl, beat one egg until its frothy, then combine that with the other ingredients. Spray a cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Form the mixture into small balls, place on the cookie sheet and flatten gently. Bake for about 10 minutes and then remove for oven. Allow the treats to rest on the cookie sheet for a few moments, then turn them over and place them back in the oven for another 10 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool thoroughly before serving.
