How To Manage Kitten Toileting

Toileting is using the toilet for excretion. Toileting is the same as litter training for the kittens. The kitten you've got home might seem to be an out-of-this-world beautiful creature at first, but it may prove to be a menace once it starts to pee all around. This dirtying is unhygienic both for the kitten and the owner. So litter training or toileting is an essential requirement while bringing up your kitten. It isn't as hard as you think, but it isn't easy either.

Patience

You've got to have a certain bit of patience while dealing with your kitten. This is because it won't learn everything at once - you'll have to teach it the same way as you give potty training to a toddler. Especially if you have a kitten younger than 3 months, then you've got to have extra patience.

Litter Box And Kitty Litter

Arrange a visit to your local pet store and buy a litter box or litter tray made of wood, plastic or clay for your kitten. Ask the store owner for advice on using the litter tray. Also, buy a kitty litter, or a litter spray which can attract the kitten to come over to use it. You can rely on the suggestions of the store owner again as he will know more than you.

Placement Of Litter Box

Next step for is the placement of litter box. The place should be easily approachable for the kitten, and must be kept near its favorite place. For example, keep it in your living room or bedroom where it likes to sleep. Also, it should be kept away from its feeding trays and bowls. Imagine if you're made to eat where you do toileting; not possible, right?

Making The Kitten Aware

You've got to make your kitten aware of why the litter box is kept for it. You may have to hold the kitten yourself and place it on the litter box to teach it the significance and usage of the box. Also, you might have to make it scratch the litter (already bought) to make it feel it by its claws. It would be ideal to place it on litter box after it eats or drinks anything. It is the right time for toileting for a kitten. If the kitten doesn't respond to your attempts, it might be unwell or anxious or not happy because cats generally love hygiene. You might need to take it to a vet then. As part of hygiene maintenance, you also need to clean the litter box every time the kitty uses it. Else it won't use it again and would search for other places to litter.

In this parlance, toilet training might seem to be a tedious job at first and difficult as well, but it is important for the overall training of your pet.
